Is Delta 8 More Potent Than Delta 9?

We take a look at the science behind these two cannabinoids to see if Delta 8 is more potent than Delta 9.

The Different Types of Delta 8

Delta 8 is one of the four most common types of cannabinoids found in cannabis. Delta 9 is the most well-known cannabinoid, but Delta 8 has been gaining in popularity due to its unique effects. So, what exactly is the difference between these two cannabinoids? And, more importantly, is Delta 8 more potent than Delta 9?

To understand the difference between Delta 8 and Delta 9, we first need to understand what cannabinoids are. Cannabinoids are a group of chemicals found in cannabis that interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is responsible for maintaining homeostasis, or balance, in the body. This system regulates a variety of functions, including pain, appetite, mood, and memory.

There are over 100 different cannabinoids found in cannabis, but only a handful have been studied extensively. Delta 9 is the most well-known cannabinoid due to its mind-altering effects. Delta 8 is similar to Delta 9 in structure, but it differs in its effects on the body.

Delta 8 is less potent than Delta 9, but it offers a unique set of effects that make it popular among cannabis users. Delta 8 has been shown to reduce anxiety and improve focus without causing paranoia or anxiety like Delta 9 can. In addition, Delta 8 has anti-nausea properties that make it useful for people undergoing cancer treatment or other medical procedures.

The Potency of Delta 8

In terms of potency, Delta 8 is about two-thirds as potent as Delta 9. This means that it takes about 3 times as much Delta 8 to produce the same effects as Delta 9. However, the effects of Delta 8 are also shorter-lived, so it is not necessarily a more potent cannabinoid.

The Benefits of Delta 8

As the legal landscape around cannabis evolves, so too does the conversation around its many cannabinoids. Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta 8 or D8) is one of more than 100 unique cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. It’s similar to the better-known Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in both structure and effects, but it’s a different compound with its own distinct benefits.

While Delta 8 and Delta 9 are both psychoactive compounds, Delta 8 is about half as potent as Delta 9. This makes it a good choice for people who want the benefits of THC without the intense psychoactive effects.

Delta 8 also has anti-nausea properties, making it helpful for people undergoing cancer treatment or other medical procedures that may cause nausea and vomiting. In addition,Delta 8 may help to improve your appetite and promote weight gain in cases of cachexia (wasting syndrome).

Other potential benefits of Delta 8 include:
· relieving anxiety
· reducing inflammation
· reducing pain
· promoting relaxation

The Side Effects of Delta 8

While Delta 8 is much less potent than Delta 9, it can still produce some psychoactive side effects. These can include:

-Anxiety
-Paranoia
-Dizziness
-Headaches

It’s important to start with a low dose and increase slowly to avoid these side effects. If you do experience any of them, stop taking Delta 8 and consult your doctor.

The Legality of Delta 8

The legal status of Delta 8 is still somewhat unclear in the United States. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp-derived CBD with a THC content of 0.3% or less. However, Delta 8 is not specifically mentioned in the bill. This means that, technically, Delta 8 could be considered illegal under federal law.
